“Hot Rocks” Vineyard Pinot Noir – Winemaker’s Selection
The winemaker’s selection is grown in our very rocky vineyard along the banks of the river; this spot gets 10-15% more heat due to the stone reflection and thin soils. What comes out is a deeper, darker Pinot Noir that is more muscular than most in this area. After an extended cold soak we aged it 10 months in new oak for a richer vanilla texture & finish.
Food Pairing: Pinot Noir is well-suited to pair with poultry, beef, fish, ham, lamb and pork. It will play well with creamy sauces, spicy seasonings and may just be one of the world’s most versatile food wines.
Winemaker’s Note: Grown in our Hot Rocks Vineyard which is 3 miles away in the big city of Barlow. (pop 164). This vineyard site is along the Molalla River next to my brother-in-law’s organic vegetable farm. However this part of the farm was too rocky for the vegetables to grow in. We put in Pinot Noir grapes about 10 years ago and they love the rocky site. It is hotter on this site than our other vineyards due to the heat reflecting on the rocks so the Pinot Noir that comes out is typically higher in brix, deeper color and spicier structure. We make a few hundred cases of this single vineyard on its own, aged in new oak. It’s the Pinot for people that don’t normally enjoy Pinot Noir. We craft this blend of Pommard and 667 clones seperately through extended maceration and aging on at least 50% new oak. The new oak keeps the dark cherry flavors up front and a richer vanilla texture on the finish.
