Walla Walla Sangiovese – a Super Tuscan Fan Favorite!
Pronounced: San-joe-Vay-say. This dark ruby wine is full of strawberry & blueberry notes plus spice, sweet oak and vanilla. Grown in one of the premier sites in Walla Walla. It was then aged in small oak barrels for over 24 months. Great for drinking right now or save it for a rainy day & roasted meat dishes.
Food Pairings: Well-matched for the flavors of chicken, red meat, fish, lamb, pork, pastas, stews or well-aged cheeses.
Winemaker’s Note: Italy’s most commonly planted red grape varietal, boasting over a dozen distinct clones, tends to linger longer on the vine and takes its time to mature. Italian Chianti and Chianti Classico wines are prime examples of popular wines produced predominantly from Sangiovese. We use the “Grosso” clone; Grosso means Big and Sangiovese means delicious. A great food wine that has more structure and deeper notes than Pinot Noir; but still maintains the body and acidity of a wine that goes well with food. Enjoy the dark cherry notes and extra vanilla on the finish. This Grosso clone was aged for three years in the barrel, and an additional year in the bottle, which if we were in the right section of Italy, would classify it as a ‘Brunello’. (If you go to a nice Italian restaurant you will find them listed way in the back of the wine list…very spendy and almost worth it).
